Ambassador Ann Derwin
Welcome to the Embassy of Ireland China website. We hope you will use it as a means of keeping in touch with what is happening in Ireland, and with Ireland-related developments in China.
Ireland enjoys a warm and positive bilateral relationship with China and it is a privilege for me to represent Ireland in China. I am committed to deepening relations with our Chinese hosts and to serving the needs of Irish citizens.
I am honoured to lead an energetic Team Ireland in China that brings together the Embassy, our two Consulates General (in Shanghai and Hong Kong), our Visa Office in Beijing and our State Agencies – IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Bord Bia (Irish Food Board) and Tourism Ireland.
We support the community of Irish people who are resident, or who may be travelling in China as well as Irish individuals, businesses, public bodies and institutions which are engaged in activities in China. We promote flows of Chinese tourists and investment into Ireland and two-way flows of students together with cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries.
Continued visits and communication between our political systems is vital in furthering our relationship in the political domain, as well as in trade and investment, food and agriculture, in education, research and culture and in people-to-people links, especially among the young.
Ireland and China celebrated 40 years of Diplomatic relations in 2019 and our relations continue to go from strength to strength. Our trade relationship has been a particular highlight of our relationship, with two-way trade in goods and services in 2019 amounting to €24 billion.
It is a particular privilege for me to serve as Ambassador when Ireland and China relations are growing ever stronger across trade, culture, tourism and political links. China’s modern economy and that of Ireland complement each other and I look forward to ensuring that we continue to grow our trade and forging even closer and deeper engagement in the future.
To all the friends of Ireland in China I encourage you to keep in touch via this website or you can search for us on Twitter, on Weibo and on WeChat.
