New Architects: Ireland Exhibition

Ambassador Frank Flood opened the New Architecture: Ireland Exhibition on September 12.

Conceived, designed and curated by AP+E and funded by Irish Design 2015 and the Irish Embassy Network, New Architecture: Ireland is a traveling architecture exhibition that presents the work of six young Irish offices that have emerged during the recent economic crisis. Ireland’s financial woes during this period are well documented and this has had an enormous impact on the construction and design sector. This shift has forced architects/designers to refocus and in this way these bleak times have produced new offices and ways of thinking.

With Ireland's successful emergence out of the EU/IMF bailout and the new growth of the economy, the tide is now starting to turn. This exhibition presents these new voices in architecture that have weathered the storm and the promise they hold for architecture both in Ireland and internationally.

The six offices featured are: Culturstruction, Donal Colfer Architects, Sult, Urban Agency, VAV and AP+E, with an introductory essay written by John McLaughlin.

The exhibition opened in Tallinn as part of the Tallinn Architecture Biennale on the 12th of September. Located at Solaris, it was formally opened by Ambassador Frank Flood.

The exhibition has led to an initiative being led by the Estonian Ministry of Culture to build and curate and a potential collaboration framework between the Estonian and Irish/Northern Irish architecture offices in such a way that it would lead to sustainable long-term actual co-working and meaningful discourse for both sides.
