St. Patrick's Day 2015
The Embassy held an official reception at the Hilton Malta Hotel on Tuesday 17th March, 2015.
The Embassy was honoured by the level of official Maltese representation at the event which featured Her Excellency the President of Malta, the Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Honourable Minister for Home Affairs and National Security.
In his address, the Ambassador spoke to the similarity between the economic growth of Malta and Ireland and the prospect that they will be the fastest growing economies in the EU in the coming years. Recalling the hard political decisions taken and implemented to create the space for the recovery, the Ambassador spoke of the determination, resilience and hard work of the Irish people.
Quoting a Maltese proverb, "Wara l-maltemp jigi l-bnazzi", (after the storm comes the good weather) the Ambassador stated that a new optimism has returned to Ireland.
The Ambassador also made reference to Yeats 2015 as well as other possible areas of future cooperation between the two countries such s business, sport and defence. Citing the similarities between two island nations on the periphery of the EU, he closed the speech with the quotation from Yeats "there are no strangers, only friends you have not yet met."
