Ireland supported launch of Municipal Development Programme

26 November 2015

With support from Ireland, the Municipal Development Program – PRODEM, was officially launched on November 26th in Pemba, the capital city of Cabo Delgado province, in northern Mozambique. The programme aims to “Contribute to urban poverty reduction and sustainable development of the municipalities”.

New MOU for GBS Signed in Maputo by 14 Development Partners

Ambassador William Carlos signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Provision of General Budget Support, along with 13 other agencies and countries providing General Budget Support to Mozambique, thus confirming Ireland’s commitment to support the government in achieving its development and poverty reduction goals for Mozambique.

Ambassador William Carlos visits FACIM

In September Ambassador William Carlos visited FACIM, Mozambique’s main international trade fair, which this year attracted over 3000 exhibitors from Mozambique and over 30 countries, as well as from all provinces of Mozambique. FACIM is a general trade fair, a meeting point for producers, salespersons, investors, importers, exporters, buyers and government departments.

Irish Embassy consultations with Inhambane Province

During the semi-annual consultations between the Irish Embassy and the Inhambane Provincial Government, the Head of Cooperation, Mr Kevin Colgan reiterated Ireland’s support for the Province’s development and committed to continue support to the end of the current country programme.

Mothers, wives and daughters for national reconciliation and peace

The Embassy of Ireland in Maputo is co-sponsoring an initiative called ‘Mothers, wives and daughters for national reconciliation and peace’ (‘Mães, esposas e filhas pela reconciliação nacional e paz plena’) that hopes to contribute to the peace process in Mozambique by building trust amongst the different segments of Mozambican society.

Mozambique achieves target for Millennium Development Goal 1

The National Food Security and Nutrition Secretariat (SETSAN) has announced that Mozambique has achieved Millennium Development Goal 1C to halve the proportion of people who suffer from hunger by 2015. Mozambique was recognised for this achievement by the FAO and WFP at the 39th FAO Conference in Rome in June.

40th Anniversary of Mozambican Independence Day

Earlier today the Irish Ambassador to Mozambique, His Excellency, Mr. William Carlos, attended the 40th anniversary of Mozambican Independence. Mozambique became independent from Portugal on 25 June 1975. Also attending the anniversary celebrations was the President of Mozambique Mr. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and the rest of the Diplomatic Corps which are accredited to Mozambique.
