Maputo turns green for St. Patrick's Day!
Every year on 17th March the Irish celebrate their national holiday, St Patrick's Day. The day is about more than just religion, it is about celebrating our history and culture and it is an opportunity to share with the rest of the world all that is great about Ireland. For this reason, on the 17th of March, there are great celebrations all over the world.
One of the main events is an initiative known as Greening, it is a worldwide event that takes place on the 17th during which iconic attractions in many cities are illuminated green. On the Greening list are places such as the pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China and the London Eye. This year, for the first time, Maputo joined this impressive list! The Fortress of Maputo was the chosen venue for this inaugural Greening.
Relations between Ireland and Mozambique are very positive; the Embassy has been here for over twenty years. We are always looking for ways to share Irish and Mozambican culture to enable our two countries to better understand each other and work together for the benefit of both. The well-known Irish brand Jameson will continue the celebrations to mark this special day with the Jameson Connects party to be held in the Fortaleza de Maputo on Friday 24th of March.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all Mozambicans a Happy St. Patrick's Day, or as we say in our native language, Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona daoibh!
Maputo torna-se verde para o dia de São Patrício!
Todos os anos no dia 17 de Março os Irlandeses celebram o feriado nacional, o dia de São Patrício. É o Patrício da Irlanda. O dia trata mais do que de religião, trata-se de celebrar a nossa história e cultura e é uma oportunidade para partilhar com o resto do mundo tudo o que é importante sobre a Irlanda. Por essa razão, no dia 17 de Março, há celebrações grandiosas pelos cinco cantos do mundo.
Um dos principais eventos é uma iniciativa conhecida como Greening, que é um evento mundial que decorre no dia 17 e durante o qual pontos característicos de diversas cidades são iluminados de cor verde. Na lista verde figuram lugares como as pirâmides do Egito, a Grande Muralha da China e a roda gigante de Londres. Este ano, pela primeira vez, Maputo se juntará a esta impressionante lista! A Fortaleza de Maputo é o local escolhido para este Greening inaugural.
As relações entre a Irlanda e Moçambique são muito positivas; já cá estamos há mais de vinte anos. Estamos sempre à procura de formas de partilhar a cultura irlandesa e moçambicana para permitir que os nossos dois países compreendam-se melhor e trabalhem juntos para o bem de ambos. A conhecida marca irlandesa Jameson continuará as celebrações para marcar este dia especial com a festa Jameson Connects, a realizar-se na Fortaleza na sexta-feira 24 de Março.
