Visit to UAE by Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and Government Chief Whip Regina Doherty

In March of 2017 Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and Government Chief Whip, Regina Doherty TD visited the UAE.

Minister Doherty met with HE Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation & Director General of Dubai EXPO2020.

Minister Doherty also had meetings with HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, HE Noura Al Kaabi, Minister for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs and Chairwoman of the Media Zone Authority and HE Ohood bint Khalfan Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness during her visit.

Minister Doherty participated in a number of events in support of the Irish community and Irish business interests in the UAE. The Minister gave a speech at the Embassy's St Patrick's Day Reception in Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Irish Society St Patrick's Day Ball in Dubai.

Gulf States Trade Mission

Michael Creed TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, led a successful Trade Mission to the United Arab Emirates in February 2017 in support of Irish business interests in the Gulf.

During his visit to the UAE, Minister Creed met with HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance for the United Arab Emirates.

The Minister spoke at the Bord Bia Origin Green Gala Dinner. The event, which was attended by over 300 people, was a successful showcase of high quality and sustainable Irish food. 

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed during a meeting with H.E Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, further strengthening the bilateral ties between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.

Minister Flanagan welcomed UAE Foreign Minister H.H. Sheikh Abdullah to Ireland 

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan T.D. welcomed UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation H.H. Sheikh Abdullah to Ireland in February 2017.

Minister Flanagan, along with the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald T.D., held talks with Sheikh Abdullah on a range of issues of mutual concern.

Sheikh Abdullah, accompanied by the UAE Minister of State for Higher Education, HE Dr Belhoul Al Falasi, also met with Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton T.D., and with the Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, during his visit.

January 2017

Arab Health Convention 2017

The Arab Health Convention took place in January 2017. Pat Breen TD, Minister of State for Employment and Small Business attended the event on a visit to the UAE in support of significant Irish business interests in the healthcare sector.

Minister Breen had meetings with HE Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Health Authority and Abu Dhabi Health Services.
