Greening the Equator for St. Patrick’s Day 2015

As part of the Global Greening initiative, the Embassy partnered with the Uganda Tourism Board and the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Maria Mutagamba, in turning the Equator landmark green. This was done with sponsorship and technical support from Umeme Ltd. and produced a lovely effect which was enjoyed by all who drove along the busy Kampala – Masaka highway for three weeks.

Mother Kevin and the Little Sisters of St. Francis

This is a short documentary featuring Mother Kevin and the Little Sisters of St. Francis. Teresa Kearney, better known as Mother Kevin or Mama Kevina hailed from Co. Wicklow. Arriving in Uganda in 1903, Mother Kevin spent 52 years working tirelessly in Africa, founding several missions focused on charitable activities, including the Little Sisters of St. Francis.

Karamoja University Bursary

Irish Aid began a Secondary school bursary programme in the Karamoja region of North Eastern Uganda in 2005. The students featured in the video were the first cohort under the Irish Aid higher education bursary programme, and have since graduated from University.

Deputy Pat Breen T.D, Chair of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade in the Irish Parliament (the Dáil), visited Jinja Hospice facility in Jinja district, Uganda. This was part of a five day visit, including travel to Karamoja, Busoga, and Kampala.
