What is the best way to get an Irish passport?

Passport Express

The Passport Express system is the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to apply for your passport. Apply through your local post office, in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and the Passport Service aims to have passports back to you in 10 working days from the receipt of fully completed applications for most applicants. Don’t use this method if you need your passport in fewer than ten working days. For first time applicants or those who are replacing lost or stolen books, the processing time can take up to 15 working days.

Need it sooner than ten days?

An online passport appointment system for quick turnaround is available at the Passport Offices in Dublin and Cork. This allows customers to book a time slot for an appointment before going to save time queuing at the Passport Office. The priority in the system is given to those with urgent travel needs. All others are encouraged to use the passport express service. Book at our passport appointments service.

Travelling within 48 hours?

A Rapid Renewal programme based in our office at Knockmaun House, 42-47, Lower Mount Street, allows one-day passport renewals – by appointment only – for citizens who have evidence of travel in less than 3 working days. While the move has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to passport services, the capacity to process applications requiring same day turnaround will be reduced. Appointments can be made from 12.30pm the previous day by going to the Passport appointments service.

In the case of genuine emergencies such as a death/serious illness abroad, the Passport Service offers an emergency service. Please call 01-6711633 for further information.
