Centenarian Bounty
The Centenarian Bounty is awarded by the President of Ireland to Irish citizens who have reached 100 years of age.
What is the Centenarian Bounty?
It’s a payment, accompanied by a letter of congratulations, signed by the President.
Am I eligible?
You’re eligible to apply for the Centenarian Bounty if:
- You’ve reached your 100th birthday
- You’re an Irish citizen, born on the island of Ireland, and living outside the State
- Please note, it is not possible to make payment of the Centenarian Bounty to the estate of a deceased person. Payment can also not be made even in cases where a person did reach their 100th birthday but where the application process was not completed before their death.

How it began?
The first President of Ireland, Douglas Hyde, introduced the Centenarian’s Bounty in 1940 when a gift of £5 was given.
