Tánaiste Simon Coveney, Minister Paul Kehoe, Commissioner Pat Wilson, Don Waters, and Kyle Marrero opened Georgia Southern University's learning center in Wexford.

Catch up on the latest news and events from the Consulate General of Ireland in our monthly newsletter available here

A new chapter began in the relationship between the Southeast of Ireland and the Southeast USA last month, when Tánaiste Simon Coveney, Minister Paul Kehoe, Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson, University System of Georgia Chair Don Waters and Georgia Southern University President Kyle Marrero opened Georgia Southern University's learning center in Wexford.

Georgia Southern's learning center will renew a generations old connection between Savannah and Wexford, explored in detail in the Emigrant Support Programme funded Wexford-Savannah Axis project, led by our great friend, Howard Keeley.

Congratulations to all who have put a great deal of work into this initiative. The project partners also met President Michael D. Higgins during their visit to Ireland.

Vice Consul O'Keeffe and I continue to work to develop relationships with some of the great educational institutions here in the Southeast, with recent trips to Auburn University in Alabama and Clemson University in South Carolina respectively. Developing and growing these partnerships will continue to be a priority for us in the Consulate.

The holiday season is well and truly upon us now and I would like to finish my last message of 2019 by wishing all our readers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Nollaig shona agus athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh go léir.
