06 March 2020Join us for a special talk by Dr Clare Hutton from Loughborough University on 'The Early Days of Joyce in the United States' on Monday, 23 March at 6:30pm at the Consulate General of Ireland in Austin.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Clare Hutton from Loughborough University 'The Early Days of Joyce’s Ulysses in the US' for a special talk on 'The Early Days of Joyce in the United States'.
Synopsis:
How did the world’s most famous Irish novel end up being published in an obscure New York journal? Who read the first instalments of Ulysses and what did they make of it? Why was Joyce’s text so controversial and what kind of legal reception did it have?
Based on her recent monograph, Serial Encounters: Ulysses and the Little Review (Oxford, 2019), this talk will introduce and discuss the key facts and figures behind the early days of Ulysses in the US. It is a story full of gaps, humour and surprises. All most heartily welcome, including readers of Ulysses who, like dozens of Dublin taxi drivers, ‘know the main characters but haven’t got too far into yet’.
Join us at the Consulate General of Ireland on Monday, 23 March at 6:30pm-8:30pm for this special talk by Dr Clare Hutton.
