Consul General, Sighle FitzGerald

CG FitzGerald

Welcome Message

Welcome to the Consulate General of Ireland in Boston.  My name is Síghle FitzGerald and I am honoured to be the Consul General for New England, based here in Boston and with responsibility for the States of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. I began my posting in September 2023.

I am from Mullingar, Co. Westmeath and my parents hailed from Macroom/Bandon in Co. Cork and from Boyle in Co. Roscommon. I am a graduate of the University of Galway and hold an honours degree in English & Political Science as well as a post graduate Diploma in Public Relations from Dublin City University.  I have over twenty years’ experience working as a career diplomat with Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. I served as Cultural and Press Attaché in Ireland’s embassies in Madrid and Washington DC and was assigned to Ireland’s Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels during Ireland’s Presidency of the EU in 2013. I became Joint Director General of the International Fund for Ireland in 2021 having previously served in the North South Ministerial Council in Armagh.

I am looking forward to taking on all the varied aspects of my role and working with our wonderful team here in the Consulate. I also look forward to travelling throughout New England and meeting with as many of you as possible during my term.
