The 2nd annual Zagreb Book Festival opens

On the evening of Monday, 16 May, the 2nd annual Zagreb Book Festival was officially opened in the courtyard of the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Ambassador Tim Harrington was joined by the Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić, the director of the Museum, Miro Gašparović, the director of the Zagreb Book Festival, Petra Ljevak, and the Festival's programme coordinator, Ivana Bodrožić. The Festival will take place between 16-22 May.

Brooklyn movie night with the Embassy

Ambassador Tim Harrington hosted approximately 40 guests at a screening of the Oscar nominated film Brooklyn on the evening of 3 March 2016 in Zagreb. The guests included members of the Irish community in Croatia, the diplomatic corps and, of course, Croatian friends of the Embassy. After the film, guests joined Ambassador Harrington at a reception.
Ambassador Harrington visits new Zagreb airport terminal

On Tuesday 1 March, Ambassador Tim Harrington toured the construction site of the new Zagreb airport terminal. The €243m terminal is being built by a consortium led by Bouygues Construction International. Arup Ireland, part of the global Arup Group, is acting as an Independent Engineer on the project and is also supplying the Supervising Engineering services. This is the first major project for Arup Ireland in Croatia.

On 29 February, Ambassador Tim Harrington met with the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor), Dr Željko Reiner. Ambassador Harrington congratulated Dr. Reiner on his election to the post of President of the Sabor in December 2015 and wished him every success in this role.

On Saturday 27 February Ambassador Harrington and UK Ambassador Ian Cliff, hosted a buffet / reception in the History Café in Zagreb to the Ireland vs England RBS Six Nations rugby match.

Ambassador Tim Harrington and his colleagues from the British and Canadian embassies, Ambassador Ian Cliff and Ambassador Dan Maksymiuk, respectively, took part in a roundtable discussion about "country trademarking" at the second annual Whiskey Fair.

Lord of the Dance Tour in Croatia

Michael Flatley’s Irish dance and music spectacles have had a large following in Croatia over the last few years. The latest Croatian tour of the Dangerous Games production proved that Irish culture remains well-appreciated here as the cities of Split, Zadar, Zagreb and Rijeka hosted the show in mid-October.

The programme of events for Bloomsday Pula took place from 14-16 June and included 13 separate events. Highlights included a screening of Joseph Strick's 1967 film of Ulysses; a public reading of Ulysses including by the Ambassador; an exhibit on Joyce's time in Pula; a public lecture on Joyce; an exhibition of Irish Dancing; and a performance of Joyce's children's play "The Cat and the Devil".

The 17th of March - St. Patrick's Day and the national day of Ireland - was celebrated in Zagreb this year with particular energy and enthusiasm. The Irish Government was represented by Minister of State Kevin Humphreys, T.D.

The Embassy's permanent home opened to the public on 17 March - St. Patrick's Day! This is the first resident Embassy of Ireland in Croatia and one which we intend will promote the links - human, commercial and cultural - between the two countries.
