Green St. Patrick's Day celebrations across Croatia

Molo Long port cranes show the City of Rijeka's participation in St. Patrick's Day celebrations
This year’s Global Greening in Croatia includes 10 cities/municipalities – the majority of which have marked St. Patrick’s Day with the Embassy in the past by “greening” their respective landmarks. The cities of Zagreb, Rijeka and Pula have been with the Embassy for years now. They were joined soon after the first group by the cities of Split, Zadar, Hvar, Dubrovnik and Varaždin. Most recently, the municipality of Oriovac – the only Slavonian participant, which has taken part once – and the City of Karlovac (which will “green” Dubovac Castle, once owned by the Irishman Count Laval Nugent) have joined the initiative.
The Croatian cities will “green” the following landmarks:
- Zagreb – Fountains on Croatian Fraternal Communities Street, Klovićevi dvori (Klović Palace)
- Rijeka – Trsat Castle (once owned by Nugent), Molo Longo port cranes, Adriatic Square fountains
- Pula – Pula Roundabout
- Split – Prokurativa Fountain
- Zadar – Pozdrav suncu (Welcome the sun)
- Hvar – Arsenal
- Varaždin – Croatian National Theatre
- Dubrovnik – Small Onofrio Fountain
- Oriovac – Turkish fountain
- Karlovac – Dubovac Castle
The greenings will visible after nightfall.
Tourism Ireland initiated a worldwide Global Greening more than a decade ago and hundreds of sites all over the world have “gone green” since then. Croatian cities first took part in 2016.
