Embassy Ljubljana supports Irish choir performance in Slovene karst cave

Deputy Head of Mission attended the performance on Saturday 17 September by the Dublin Mellow Tonics Choir in Županova Jama, Grosuplje. The ‘Karst and Song’ event was hosted by Grosuplje Tourist Board in association with the ZRC SAZU Karst Research Institute. Within the framework of the International Year of Caves and Karst and dedicated to the connection of science and art, the event highlighted one of many connections between Ireland and Slovenia – both countries have exstensive karst areas. The name of Burren area on the North Clare coast for instance stems from an Irish word "Boíreann" meaning a rocky place.
